Wetlands Education Center
Washington, DC 2009 Student Work A poorly utilized site on the edge of the Anacostia River in Washington, DC is transformed into a wetlands education and conservation center. Restoring a natural edge to the river and enhancing urban access to the waterfront are priorities of this design. Touching the land more delicately at the river’s edge, the building lifts off of the ground and restored wetlands pass underneath. Boardwalks featuring paths, signage, and gathering areas wind through the tall grasses and wildlife habitats allowing visitors a more intimate experience with their landscape. |
