Public Promenade & Spa – Hoboken, NJ
2007 Student Work A new building along a publicly inaccessible portion of the Hoboken waterfront required program space for a spa. However, this winning design presented opportunities beyond solely a luxury retreat. Enhancing the required program, the building restores a pedestrian connection along the segmented linear waterfront park, and gives the public a relaxation destination of their own. The spa experience is envisioned as one of entering the water. The mass is pushed down into the site and towards the waterfront. The pedestrian pathway travels over the spa and wraps up the building to provide a destination for pedestrians — a place to have a picnic, to sun bathe, or to enjoy a view of the Manhattan skyline. |
